The old one doesn't work. I tried building from source and also tried installing the mercurial version but I get an error after I run ./configure:
checking for LIBPNG... configure: error: in `/home/i337/Downloads/lxdream-0.9.1': configure: error: The pkg-config script could not be found or is too old. Make sure it is in your PATH or set the PKG_CONFIG environment variable to the full path to pkg-config.
It's been a few years since I tried messing around with this and I want to have another go at it, but I can't get it to build.
Anyone out there?

I wrote Ubuntu in the title but I actually meant Kubuntu. I figure if it works in one it will work in both though, right? Or am I wrong?

Error clearly states that configure script could not find libpng(-devel) in your path.
Simply install libpng and libpng-devel to resolve this error.
