Hey, I've downloaded the lxdream source code and I want to get it working on Windows XP but I don't know where to begin.

I extracted the lxdream-0.9.1 tar file and it shows me a bunch of files but I don't know where to go from there. I downloaded something called "cygwin" if that helps but I have no idea how to use it... It doesn't even seem to have an interface.

Cheers, RocketMan.

Just for interest: Why do you want to use an written for Linux and Mac OS X under Windows, when there are several emulators which run directly under Windows (nulllDC, DEmul)? It's not that I don't want you to use lxdream, but if you're just looking for emulator, you should probably try one of these first.

Just for the hell of getting it working on Windows I guess. I want to mess around with lxdream but I don't want to install Linux. Do you know what sort of problems I would run into trying to get this running on Windows? (Apart from the part where I don't even know how to begin).

I haven't run Windows in years, so I'm totally unfamiliar with running Linux programs under Windows. Here are some links I found on a naive google sear:

http://www.lifehack.org/articles/techno ... ndows.html
http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Run_Linux_A ... in_Windows
http://www.linuxlinks.com/article/20090 ... ndows.html

I have not read them in detail, but they looked as there is at least some suitable information on this matter.
I'm not much of expert on programming and operating systems, but don't think you can get a Linux program running under Windows without further other programs, unless you want to manually apply the whole source code (so that it compiles under Windows). Judging from these articles, you can either try to install a virtual Linux und run the binaries with it, or you need to compile the source under Cygwin. There should be tutorials for both variants on the net, if the links do not already provide enough information.

yes, you should be able to get it built and running with cygwin, although I make no promises with respect to how well it will run. Once you have a cygwin shell and the necessary dependencies installed, the build process is pretty much the same as building on linux.

At least when it works anyway.

Nathan
